Dogecoin (DOGE) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency which source code is based on the protocol of Litecoin. The currency was developed as a kind of satire that pokes fun at the wild speculation surrounding cryptocurrencies. For this purpose, Dogecoin uses the eponymous Internet meme "Doge" as a trademark. In spring 2021, Tesla boss Elon Musk triggered a hype about Dogecoin with a tweet. Measured by market capitalization, the Dogecoin is one of the 10 largest cryptocoins. However, there is no serious project behind the Dogecoin, which is why the blockchain is hardly updated.
