Algorand (ALGO) was launched in 2017 by Silvio Micali, a computer science professor of the MIT. The blockchain serves as a network on which developers should be able to develop blockchain applications. Algorand aims to solve the well-known blockchain trilemma of security, scalability and decentralization. For this, the brains behind Algorand have developed an extended Proof of Stake consensus process, called Pure Proof of Stake (PPoS), which is intended to solve this trilemma. According to its own information, Algorand is CO2 neutral.
