Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a cryptocurrency that was created in 2016 through a hard fork of Ethereum. This hard fork followed due to a hack (the so-called DAO-Hack) in 2016. After the hack, the community had to decide whether to do nothing and trust the code or if a fork should take place. About 90% of the community voted for a hard fork and the recovery of the lost ETH. However, about 10% of users remained loyal to classic Ethereum, resulting in Ethereum Classic. Even though ETC and ETH are both smart contract networks, there are still some differences. For example, ETC is not based on a proof of stake concept like ETH, but on the classic proof of work concept.
